Vancouver Gay Pride Parade ’08 30th Anniversary Edition
Vancouver Skateboarders Riding the ramps on a moving flatbed
Some band playing
Vancouver Men’s Chorus and Choir
Drag queens on a truck dancing and partying it up
Work Safe BC’s float. Was a really nice float – I just didn’t quite understand why they were there. Chalk it up to corporate sponsorship. Supporting Gay Pride is good for your image in the community.
Vancouver Aquatic Center’s float. Very cool and great imagination went into this one. The balloons represent water and the people with the swimming caps were racing down the ‘lanes’ while running up the street.
More queens
His sign reads something like “we sincerely appologize to the Gay community for the way the Catholic church has treated you over the years.” This guy got lots of cheers from the audience. I hope one of you right wing nutjobs sees this and sends me piles of hate mail.
Desi pride
It’s not gay pride without a truck load full of boys in their underwear.
The crowd following the parade through the route. Looks like these guys have a little bit of support in this city.
This update is a little late because I was feeling a little bit lazy. I walked out of my apartment last weekend to run some errands and ended up in the middle of thousands of people concentrated on Vancouver’s Robson Street to watch the Annual Gay Pride Parade. It was nice to see these little princesses out dancing and partying it up in the streets with what looked like wide spread support for their cause. Judging from what I see on CNN and Fox News I don’t think these guys and girls and guy/girls would have had such a warm response in other parts of N America.
Here are a load of pics from this Pride Parade 08. Enjoy
Grouse Grind + Grouse Mountain bears, eagles, lumberjacks and more
This Sunday was my first ever Grouse Grind. It’s something every red-blooded Vancouverite is supposed to do and after 31 years I’ve finally done it. Made it all the way to the top!
At the top of Grouse we treated ourselves to lunch + drinks. We watched some grizzly bear cubs play fighting, saw a lumberjack competition, watched eagles, hawks, falcons and othe birds of prey flying. Lots of para-gliders, a backwards chairlift down the hill topped by a gondola ride all the way back down to our parking lot base camp.
That Grouse Grind is a lot tougher than you’d think.
Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival in Whistler
Now this looks like a lot of fun! If you’re out and about in the Whistler, BC area this weekend definately drop in on the 1st Annual Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival.
Basically, they roll an 11lbs wheel of cheese down a steep hill and a gang of fully grown adults chase down the hill to catch the cheese. Rumour has it that this will be submitted as a new Olympic sport for the 2012 Olympics in London.
Full details + some videos available through this link. Check back after the weekend for lots of photos of the event.

Cheese Rolling at Cooper’s Hill, Goucester UK (the originators)
The first, historic (and hysterical) Canadian Cheese Rolling race will start at 1pm. There’ll be men and womens’ heats throughout the afternoon, with kids’ uphill races in-between. Adult racers who’ve made it past the finish line first get to compete in the Race of Champions held around 3.00pm. Take a look at the prizes. Definitely worth throwing yourself down a mountain for. And don’t forget, you could also be caught on camera too!
FINALIST WINNERS
The winners in the men and womens’ finals get to take home the cheese they were chasing. And at 11 Ibs, that’s a pretty hefty prize. The winners also get the choice of a non-edible, but very tasty, Whistler Blackcomb Family Winter Season Pass or a Winter Season Pass for 2 adults.

Youtube – Living Legends feat Chuck D and Snoop Dogg
Youtube has come out with a new musical concept where you can video record a short question for a large music star and they will reply to you via video (if your question is chosen.) Apparently they’ve already done 1 run with the Rolling Stones – I didn’t even hear about that one. This 2nd edition of Living Legends features Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Snoop Dogg.
Check it out. They haven’t answered any questions yet (submit until Aug 11, 08) but there are loads of video testimonials that are pretty good.

Go serbia! Bye Adjela until October. Featuring guest appearances from Kim K, Sasha, Laurent, Irena, Mel, Kim D, Todd O, Ivy, Vanja.
Here’s a little Sunday / Monday fun
Once again biking makes the pics page. Rented some super cool Giant Simple Cruisers – buy one def worth it. Great fun to ride. Hit a little Imamt Day celebrations @ BC Place Stadium. Here you’ll see rockclimbing pics – made it to the top and some bouncy slide pics – made it to the bottom.
A casual drive down the street brings us to a softball game in the East Vanizzle park with the Section 3 crew (tie game after 7 innings) followed by a bday bbq for Ryan on top of The Spot building just before another gorgeous Vancouver sunset.
Power went out all over downtown today (Monday). See some BC Hydro trucks out and about fixing things. Seemed the problem had some origination in the the old Marble Arch / Gecko Club nightclub area Richards Street. The last pic is just randomly ironic – please be careful when stealing from this constructions site as they have razor wire set up to keep you out. That’s nice of them to tell the theives.
Go see Hellboy 2. Great movie by the Pan’s Labyrinth director.
Still summering all over town
Here are a few days all rolled into one. Filming a music video at the Vancouver Public Library. Huge waterfight organized through Facebook @ LumberMan’s Arch. Looks like there were thousands of people out with water guns and super soakers etc having fun in the park. Flirted with some cute Brazillian girls .Must be sure to remember the waterfight next year and show up prepared. Street performer balancing in the air on a skateboard and juggling flaming batons at Granvlle Island. Had to stop by Sammy J Peppers for a plate or 2 of steak bites on the way out. Kept rolling the bikes along False Creek South and ended up in the middle of the Underwear Affair – loads of marathon runners racing in their skivvies raising money for charity. It all goes to “cancers below the waist” including prostate, ovarian, testicular, bladder and all those other great fart-jokes spots. They had a cool jazz band on the corner bandstand near Science World encouraging the runners as they passed the 4 kilometer marker. Closed out the evening smoking cigars and having drinks @ Revolucion in Yaletown, then a quick jump across the street for midnight dinner and sangria at Glowbal Restaurant.
My new haircut
Not now chief I’m in the zone. Gotta love those krishnas, you take the high road and I’ll take the low @ the Blarney Stone, passed out in the street, Dj Matty Cee, the one and only Lucy @ the Modern.
Peanut Gallery art show
Art opening @ the Peanut Gallery / corner of pender and richards, downstairs. Art wasn’t too good. Band playing and a cool bar service set up. Model shot to close.

Kanye West launches "travel agency"
I don’t know how early or late I am with this news but Kayne West is launching an “online travel agency”.
Here’s the blurb from mtv.co.uk
“Kanye West starts a travel business to ferry his fans around the world… Kanye West has launched a a travel company to allow his huge world-wide fanbase to buy tickets to any of his gigs and arrange travel and accommodation to the shows.
The company, KTV (Kanye Travel Ventures), will operate from the site www.KanyeTravel.com.
Flashing Lights singer West has talked with industry experts about the venture. It’s expected that other artists will now follow suit in launching their own travel companies.”
Are you kidding??!! This looks a lot like a standard not-well-integrated travel affiliate program to me. It’s not even integrated with his tour schedule in any way. Weak.

Redbull Soapbox Race Vancouver
It all goes down September 7th. The Redbull Soapbox Race will fly down W 4th Ave in Kitsilano (from Vine to Burrard). Arrive early to secure your spot for this sure shit-show. Deadline for entering your ‘racer’ is July 4th.
RACE FORMAT
The race is open to anyone who not only thinks they can build the greatest thing on wheels, but is actually willing to drive their creation downhill. Two cars will race on a closed track. Although you’ll be racing against each other, you’re still racing against the clock. Not literally, of course. Clocks don’t know how to drive soapbox cars. But winners will be selected, in part, based on their course times.
JUDGING CRITERIA
1) Creativity – It’s not enough that it actually moves. Outrageous is what we want. The preposterous. The ostentatious. Your soapbox should be an extension of you, so have fun when you design it. Be wild. Be crazy. Be anything you want. Just not ordinary.
2) Speed – Not to state the obvious, but this event is, first and foremost, a race. So the fastest one across the finish line is definitely going to be looked favourably upon. And you actually have to cross the finish line with the vehicle.
3) Showmanship – We said the first one to cross the finish line will be looked favourably upon. We didn’t say they’d win. Speed is nothing without a little personality. OK, a lot of personality. So wow us with your stage routine, impress us with your charisma and of course, dazzle us with your showmanship.

RZA live performance in Vancouver
RZA of the world famous Wu-Tang Clan performed live @ Richards on Richards last Wednesday June 25th. He rolled in with a full band and looked ready to rock it. Some technical issues with the show – ie the mics kept cutting out – kind of affected the show

See you tomorrow. Happy Canada Day.
